I’ve decided to buy a “project” car so I have something to wrench on and when I’m done my 14 year old will have something to drive when the time comes. I found this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and I’m thinking about taking the plunge.

Ad says all it needs is a clutch slave cylinder and a quick search on YouTube revealed this to be a fairly straight forward repair that could be done in a couple of hours for about $150 worth of parts and tools.

What say ye Oppo?

For 500$ sure. Might want to make sure the slave is externally mounted too, I know it is on the s but I believe they use a different transaxle.

I know we have a different idea of ‘reliable’ here, but I have heard these are not cheap to maintain and I think other oppos have had expensive and surprise  issues/maintenance with these. Maybe not great for a first car for that reason only, otherwise I think this is a great idea and I hope I’m wrong. I would also aim for the least horsepower possible as long as 70mph on the highway is the norm for you.

Just understand that it’s not ever only a slave cylinder....

Get an S or swap the 5 speed for the 6 speed. The 5 speeds are abysmal transmissions and very very fragile, worse than the automatics  used. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an internal fault with the shift linkages. Do some research please. these things can be nightmares that are fun to drive, when they work.

Yes on the Mini, NO on the price. I’d say no more than $500- 1k, but I don’t know how much different the used car market is in WA than it is in IL.

do you hate money? Those are piles of shit. They were piles of shit 10 years ago already. I made a lot of money off of those back then. Every single one was garbage.

Oof! For some reason I thought that was Washington Craigslist lol.

But yeah, I really want one of those myself. They can be found in running condition for about $1500 out here, but then again I bought a running and driving Ford Ranger for $700 and apparently that's not a thing you can do in many places lol
